Covid-19 – What is the New Normal?

Welcome to the brave new world of COVID-19. One filled with terms like “social distancing,” “flattening the curve,” and songs to sing while washing our hands. When I think of handwashing, I’m transported to lazy summer afternoons when Mom would call me in from playing with my friends and instruct me to “go wash up for supper.” This image comforts me each time I soap up and sing my A-B-C’s.

We Miss You!

Sadly, our store is closed until at least May 4th, 2020, as part of the state-wide “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” COVID-19 order. In closing early, we joined the ranks of those working from home or not able to work at all.

At Lake Street Diamond Company, our biggest adjustment is not seeing you every day. We come to work looking forward to your visits – stories about life, family, and travel. Being sequestered at home is a seismic shift from our usual go-go pace, a calendar full of social events and to-dos planned months in advance.

After 36 years at the heart of downtown Kirkland, we are blessed to know you all – to share your joys and sorrows. Know that until we can safely be together again, we hold you all in our hearts.

What Does COVID-19 Have to Teach Us?

As we all try to keep safe and entertained, we wonder, “Is there a positive way to view this forced time out?” A dear friend calls this period “won time.” She feels that she has “won” this additional time to do those things that she never finds time to do, like working in her garden. Lu and I are rediscovering the unhurried joys of cooking, candlelight dinners, and a good book.

If you are looking for ways to use this time to connect and grow, check out Dr. Jonice Webb’s list of 20 ways to grow during this crisis.

So, as we move through these challenging weeks together, we get to re-learn some things that are a part of a simpler time. Here’s hoping we can hold onto them as an integral part of our new way of life – when all this is over.

Looking forward to seeing you soon at our jewelry store on the corner!
